St Mary’s CE(A) First School provides education for 3-9 year olds within the Uttoxeter pyramid of schools; it has close links with the Parish church of St Mary's, in the centre of Uttoxeter and is a local authority school, under Staffordshire County Council.

The school building was built in 1907 and a trust was set up within the diocese of Lichfield to provide education to the children in the Heath area of Uttoxeter. The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

It continues to be the responsibility of the governors to provide the best possible Christian education to the children; the governors are accountable to OFSTED, to the local authority and to the Lichfield Diocesan Board of Education, and are inspected regularly.  The full governing body of 14 governors meets at least once a term and there are four committees which also meet regularly: curriculum, finance, extended provision and staffing.  Foundation governors are appointed by the Church, parent governors are elected by parents of children in the school, the local authority appoints a governor, and the staff elect a governor; governors have a wide range of skills and professional expertise, and receive appropriate training.

Our school is monitored and guided financially by the Governing Body, alongside the Entrust Financial Team.  Our financial data can be compared online to other schools which are similar to ours. You can view our school's financial data, see how it compares with others by accessing the Government website - Schools Financial Benchmarking.

School governor is an unpaid voluntary position which requires time and commitment to work closely with the Governing Body, the Head Teacher and all the staff to raise standards, and to provide a safe environment within which children can learn and grow and reach their full potential.  All the governors are enthusiastic and passionate about our school, and believe that children’s education is of utmost importance; for the foundation governors it is also a way of expressing their Christian faith and the love of God for the community.
